What is the Student Lighthouse Council?
The Student Lighthouse Council at Teravista Elementary is a great way for students to get involved in leadership opportunities! The SLC will share students' views on issues involving our school, participate in community service opportunities, provide student leadership and role modeling, and represent the student body at our school's Site Based Advisory Committee.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We will be examples of ubiquitous leaders by using the 7 Habits to make the world a better place!Learn, Love, Lead!
Listed below are the positions available during each election:
Cabinet Members - open to 5th Grade only
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Classroom Representative - each classroom will have one student represent the class at SLC meetings
Kindergarten - election will take place in January
1st - 5th Grades - election will take place in late September/early October
Requirements for Student Leadership Council:
1. Students must be a leader by demonstrating the 7 Habits.
2. Students must try their personal best in all areas.
3. Students must have 2 teacher recommendations (homeroom teacher and another current teacher or previous teacher).
4. Students must prepare a 2 minute (or less) speech telling how the candidate demonstrates the 7 Habits.
5. Students must have parental consent and acknowledge that meetings will be held monthly after school.
6. Mr. Wakefield will confirm that students have not had serious behavior offenses before joining the SLC and will determine if a student needs to be removed from his/her position in the future in the event that the student receives a referral or displays ongoing inappropriate behavior, such as being disruptive to learning, not completing assignments, etc.
