2013 - 2014
Fall 2013 - Boxes of Warmth
This project was inspired by a student on our Student Leadership Council. We were seeking ideas for a school-wide service learning project and one of our council members suggested we collect items and put them in shoe boxes to deliver to people who are homeless. The other council members really liked that idea and our conversations during the meeting kept going back to doing that and doing it immediately. The SLC Vice President met with Mrs. Snow, our Principal, and shared the idea with her. She loved the idea, so we moved forward and began collecting items immediately. We were overwhelmed with the number of items we received! During our nextSLC Meeting, students assisted in sorting all of the materials and then filling the boxes with the donated items. We filled over 100 boxes with toiletries, snack food items, hats, gloves, and socks. Several of our 4th grade classes volunteered to wrap/decorate the boxes that we used to fill. The boxes were donated to the Salvation Army Shelter in downtown Austin.

Spring 2014 - Valentine's Day Nursing Home Visit
On February 9, 2014, members of the Student Leadership Council visited The Cottages at Chandler Creek. Students sat and visited, enjoyed some snacks, and completed some some arts and crafts activities with the residents.
Spring 2014 - STARRY
The Student Leadership Council selected STARRY to be our Spring 2014 Service Learning Project. During the months of January and February, students and staff were encouraged to donate new/slightly used books for all ages. On March 10th, members of the Student Leadership Council met at the STARRY foster home located at the Texas Baptist Children's Home. After taking a tour of the home and learning more about STARRY and how they help families in our community, the students unpacked all of the donated books and placed them on a bookshelf in the home. During March and April, students brought in household items on the STARRY Wish List. During April and May, students collected money to donate to STARRY.
